English study is mandatory in NSW from Kindergarten to Year 12.
In Year 11 and 12, the study of English is mandatory. Courses offered include:
- English Advanced
- English Standard
- English Studies
- English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D)
- English Life Skills.
Standard English
This course provides you with the opportunity to explore and experiment with the ways experiences and ideas are represented in and through exciting current and classic texts. You will strengthen your knowledge and understanding of language and literature by exploring ideas that are relevant to your world. You will also learn to compose a wide variety of texts for a range of audiences and purposes.
Advanced English
In Advanced English, students dive into the world of literature; it is truly the happy place for passionate readers. They explore the world through the eyes of renowned composers such as Shakespeare, Eliot, and Atwood, and grapple with provocative ideas and issues. Students’ imagination and composition skills are honed by exposure to such accomplished writers, where they learn to produce sophisticated pieces of writing of their own.
